Request An Uber, Pitch Your Big Business Idea to Investors
Whether it be hoverboard rollerblades, a cure for gluten intolerance or the next groundbreaking private transportation app.
They've already given us kittens, ice cream and babies but now as part of their enduring effort to flip the private transportation game on its head, Uber are giving users the chance to pitch their 'next big idea' to industry big wigs directly in the back seat.
From 14th – 22nd May, the inaugural techweek is running throughout the Auckland CBD, featuring 50+ events with a focus on promoting and fuelling NZ small business. With all those smart cookies in town Uber have jumped on board to give Auckland entrepreneurs the chance to get their big break - whether it be pioneering hoverboard rollerblades, a cure for gluten intolerance or the next groundbreaking private transportation app.
By requesting a ride using the 'UBERPITCHNZ' promo code between 12pm – 2pm on Wednesday 18 May users will have 10 minutes to pitch their next big idea to top business leaders and investors.
Eight investors have signed up for the concept including: New York social entrepreneur and astronaut Derek Handley; founder of global healthcare platform Orion Health, Ian McCrae; digital growth expert and recognised leading entrepreneur and investor, Roanne Parker; startup investor and member of NZ's largest angel investment group Ice Angels, Ken Erskine; brand strategist and a specialist in leadership development, Sandy Burgham; co-founder of UK-based SAP consulting business, Rudi Bublitz; leading technology lawyer and the "go to" advisor for NZ tech companies, Andrew Simmonds; former pro snowboarder and founder of Aranui Ventures, Robett Hollis, and Wendy Kerr - the Director for the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Auckland University.
Uber suggest that the goal of any pitch is to open the door to future conversations or opportunities. They recommend the following steps to get your message across concisely, accurately and in a timely fashion.
STEP 1: "Short, Sharp and Shiny" – 60 secs, go!
STEP 2: "Compel not sell" – data and vision
STEP 3: "Relate and Reassure" – the solution
STEP 4: "The Clincher" – ask and next steps
