With all-day cafe and restaurant Oaken closing its doors last December, the team at Britomart Hospitality Group has been working hard to refresh the Quay Street corner spot. Three months later and SUPER is here.

A glowing neon screams the name of the new space, which has been subtly refreshed by BHG head honcho Nick McCaw to tie in with the existing exposed timber and concrete, bench seating and Scandinavian furnishings. The newly named eatery also comes with stripped back opening hours; it will operate during sunlight hours only from 7am to 3pm during weekdays and 8am to 3pm on Saturday.

Chef Oliver Fitton has been enlisted to head the kitchen. He comes from an executive chef role at the recently closed Beirut and oversees other BHG venues like The Chamberlain. The menu seeks to tower above the usual glad-wrapped cabinetry of your traditional cafe, while still retaining the vibe of a classic neighbourhood corner spot, serving up all-day classics for breakfast, lunch and everything in-between.

As a contrast to the offbeat breakfast items of Oaken, like 63.5° immersed eggs and duck egg omelettethe menu of SUPER features more straight and narrow offerings like poached eggs on toast, eggs benedict and mince and beans. Elsewhere, you'll find Whittakers dark chocolate granola, baked Middle Eastern eggs with halloumi and an ever-changing burger with roast vegetables.

Coffee comes from Allpress and Supreme with lauded barista Sai Okesene operating the machinery. Those looking for a refreshing start to the day will have their pick of the Cali Press juice range.

SUPER is open now. Find it at 130 Quay Street, Auckland CBD.
