On Thursday, March 10, Samsung unveiled their new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets, and my gosh it comes packed with features that will make the staunchest Apple-head take note.
The Own the Night launch party - which was hosted by Remix Magazine who coincidentally released news of their new digital platform - was situated rooftop at the ASB Tennis Centre (possibly Auckland's best rooftop pool party venue?). A photoshoot took place in the Next Gen pool using the new phones, showcasing the S7's ability to capture the beauty from underneath the water. A standout feature that will get most outdoorsy men and women excited, not to mention the world's leading narcissists.
While not promising to let you scuba dive to the bottom of the ocean while still checking your emails just yet (respectable limitations of 1.5 metres for 30 minutes), you can expect a feverish increase in under-waterfall selfies and Snapchat face swaps with the poor fish of Goat Island. And we can also expect a natural decrease in phone deaths by toilet across the planet.
On a serious note, this release has been heralded as one of Samsung's best yet. Other features include Samsung Pay (more widely accepted than Apple Pay), wireless charging (we all need this in our life), extra storage space (movies on-the-go), and improved camera functionality such as low-light photos without the use of flash and opening the camera via simple double tap of the home button.
This could be one of the biggest advances in mobile technology since the inbuilt selfie camera itself. They certainly have this iPhone user's attention.
