Wellington Zoo Is Reopening with Free Entry Until the End of June
Jump online from midday today to pre-book your free ticket.
As part of New Zealand's effort to stamp out COVID-19, Wellington Zoo has been closed since mid-March. With the move to Alert Level 2 clicking over at midnight on Wednesday, 13 May, the animal sanctuary is set to reopen to the public.
The Zoo will be open to visitors from Monday, 18 May, and as a massive bonus — courtesy of some support from Wellington City Council — entry will be absolutely free until the end of June, 2020.
Before you plan on rocking up with your bubble, the complimentary tickets can only be nabbed by pre-booking online. Bookings will be available via the Zoo's website from midday Wednesday, 13 May.
In light of the Ministry of Health's current physical distancing guidelines, the Zoo is taking extra precautions for the safety of visitors, staff and animals. Hand sanitiser will be available for use throughout the Zoo and there will be additional cleaning procedures in place.
The tickets will be allocated for set times to help with contact tracing and to manage the number of people in the Zoo at any one time. You can book for a morning session (9.30–1pm) or afternoon (1.30–5pm). You can drop by any time during your booked session.
The Zoo is also advising visitors to keep to their bubbles and respect the one-metre physical distancing of others. There will be no animal talks, and other special offers like Close Encounters and Sleepovers will be suspended. The Zoo Shop remains open and Mojo Café will be open for business.
Wellington Zoo will be open from Monday, 18 May, 2020. Pre-order tickets will be open from midday Wednesday, 13 May. For full visitor info please visit: wellingtonzoo.com/covid-19
