Purpose for this role

As someone who inherently understands the cultural landscape of the city, your role is to drive Concrete Playground's organic content output in Sydney and contribute to our multi-platform growth in this market.

We're looking for a talented writer and editor with a passion for Sydney's dining culture and food scenes, to deliver inspiring content that sorts the signal from the noise and helps our audience to elevate their play.

Desired outcomes

  • Write and edit fresh, relevant, informative and audience-first digital content, and publish this to our website, social media and e-newsletter channels.
  • Maintain a network of contacts that you can tap into to stay on top of the latest in what's happening in Sydney and beyond.
  • Juggle news with multiple competing deadlines so all content is delivered in a timely fashion to our readers.
  • Dream up new feature ideas, commission editorial and photography work and build up Concrete Playground's talent pool as needed.
  • Fastidiously sub-edit digital content, making images, text, video and links work together as a happy whole.
  • Promote and repurpose content efficiently across our multi-platform ecosystem to ensure the best possible results.
  • Track and evaluate analytics to inform decisions and drive growth in traffic, engagement and market share.

Competencies

  • Technical competencies: Experience working with WordPress, SEO and analytics tools. A sound knowledge of social media and best practices. A proficient subeditor with a great eye.
  • Cultural competencies: As someone who closely follows the news and inherently understands the cultural landscape of cities, you're passionate about the things we're passionate about: food, drink, arts, culture, technology, travel, lifestyle and urban affairs.
  • Professional competencies: A creative and strategic self-starter, you're highly organised and efficient. As the media landscape is ever-changing, being agile and open to change is a must.

The Partnerships Director's role is to find great partners to work with us at Concrete Playground. Partners who we can help, by connecting them to our culture-hungry audience in a way that adds value for both the audience and the partner.

And partners who can help us, working with us on things that will help grow the Concrete Playground brand and contribute towards making meaningful content for our audience.

Desired outcomes

  • Manage a small team of Managers and Executives responsible for servicing a patch of media agencies and direct clients.
  • Meet and exceed revenue targets that the business sets for you and your team.
  • Build long-term relationships with trusted partners.
  • Develop new ideas for brave work that will make a difference and find commercial partners to make these happen.
  • Help diversify our revenue streams as a business.

Competencies 

  • Technical competencies: highly literate with tech platforms (Google Suite, Sales CRM systems), and a seasoned expert in business development.
  • Cultural competencies: You're a natural communicator and collaborator. You're passionate about what you do. You own it: accountability is important to you. You're humble and selfless. You're creative: you love the excitement of and the business of ideas.
  • And most importantly - you're passionate about the things that we are passionate about: cultural events, food and drink, travel, art and design.
