Overview
Formed as an early Christian settlement, the Rock of Dunamase spent centuries as a fortress for various rulers, from the Vikings to the More O'Ferrall clan. It was passed down through marriages and dynasties, most notably as part of the dowry of the daughter of King of Leinster, Diarmuid Mac Murrough, to the Norman chief Strongbow in 1170.
Dunamase's ruined castle walls rest on a scenic rocky outcrop, providing the perfect vantage spot to admire the stunning Irish countryside.
