The Hawthorn Hotel - CLOSED
Students of the eastern suburbs, this community-minded pub has you covered.
Overview
The crew at The Hawthorn knows that a lot has changed since the hotel opened on Burwood Road more than 150 years ago, but the importance of a good local, community pub certainly hasn't gone away.
Super close to Swinburne University, The Hawthorn welcomes students looking for a place to wind down, families looking to celebrate a big occasion, or anyone after a pub feed and a couple of beers.
The menu covers all the classics you expect to see at your local, including burgers, pizzas and five different parmas, plus bar snacks like haloumi fries with pomegranate molasses. There's a short but sweet cocktail list, which you can get by the jug, easy-drinking beers on tap, and Aussie wines poured by the glass.
In true local pub style, The Hawthorn has a welcoming indoor dining room and lounge, and an always-popular beer garden to kick back in, plus plenty of weekly specials, trivia nights, bingo, live comedy and parties. It even invites students to study in the Hawkas Chill Out Zone, open Monday to Friday before 4pm, complete with bean bags, a Nintendo Switch, free wifi, $2 coffees, bottomless soft drink for five bucks and a cheap-as-chips lunch menu.
