David LaChapelle is coming to Australia, and he wants to shoot you. The artist famous for his surreal photographic portraits of celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Alexander McQueen and Madonna, and the 2005 documentary Rize, will be in the country this week photographing commoners on the Nokia N8 in what will be his first ever public photo shoot. The Sydney shoot will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. LaChapelle has built a special set for the occasion, called the ImagiN8 studio, which features doors and windows that will work like peepholes to reveal parts of the Australian landscape behind them. The artist will be picking people out of the crowd with the best "character, personality and style," and incorporating them into the pictures. One can only speculate about the incredible costumes and spectacular makeup the lucky chosen few will have at their disposal.
