Blue Murder Studios founder and principle photographer, Cybele Malinowski, talks about discovering a 'new' song from a an old favourite album, as we continue our Soundtrack to a Sydney Summer series. 'Redondo Beach' by Patti Smith has been my little obsession over the summer. I first heard it when I was driving home from Bronte beach back in September. It was one of those unexpected hot days at the tail end of winter, where you can smell summer in the air, and you can almost hear cicadas. The water was blue, the sky was bluer, I was listening to Horses and this obscure little ska song came on. Somehow I had never really tuned into it before. It was that reggae undertone that hooked me, by the time I got home to Annandale I had listened to the song on repeat at least 5 times: through Centennial Park and down Cleveland St as the sun sank behind the west, just trying to decipher the lyrics. I had fallen in love with the song. It's a bitter sweet song, perfect with a gin and tonic in the late afternoon after a drive home from the beach. https://youtube.com/watch?v=eLGoQ7IQcr4
