We warned you back in January that this might happen. Though, rather than roll-out a stage show with toe-tapping, jazz-handing Ryan Gosling lookalikes, film company Lionsgate has instead decided to send forth the La La Land concert experience. The big screen musical will make the leap from the screen to the stage at Auckland's Spark Arena on Wednesday, December 20. The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra will be among the world's first orchestras to perform the soundtrack to a full screening of the film. The 80-piece orchestra and band will perform composer Justin Hurwitz's Oscar-winning score including the opener 'Another Day of Sun' to the 'Planetarium' instrumental and the Academy Award-winning 'City of Stars'. La La Land tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, the musical explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams. Concrete Playground's film reviewer said, "erupting with gorgeous colour and energetic choreography one moment, then taking time to brood and contemplate the next, La La Land offers a delicate balance of dreaming big while realising that not every wish can or will come true." La La Land In Concert will take place at Spark Arena on December 20, 2017. Register for presales here.
