Nine Eyes, the blog created by Montreal-based artist Jon Rafman, is proof that some of the simplest ideas can be the best. The site is nothing more than a collection of images taken straight from Google Streetview - no explanations, no titles, no words at all - but powerfully explores the concept of public view and our changing perceptions of privacy. Moving from one image to the next, one can be amused, then shocked, then horrified, then intrigued, then moved to laughter and then thoroughly confused, as each image - viewed separately and as a collection - provokes an undeniably human response. Amongst the images taken on streets all over the word by Google are those of prostitutes at work, police making arrests, thieves, trespassers, moonings, raised middle fingers, sex shop patrons and Wayne's World cosplayers. The site has now received such recognition that a selection of images will be displayed at the Free exhibition taking place at New York City's New Museum, until the end of January.
