Overview

While Melburnians can't currently jump in their car to get out of the city for a night of stargazing without the city light pollution, they can jump online and join a virtual tour of the night sky thanks to Mount Burnett Observatory.

The Dandenong Ranges spot has launched a monthly series of astronomical live-streams, kicking off on Friday, September 4. At the first virtual event, you'll learn about Jupiter, Earth's place in the solar system and a bit about the history of the observatory, as well as watching a short documentary about space.

The virtual event will start at 7.15pm with the first 100 people allowed in a Zoom chat and the remainder directed to a Facebook live-stream. Those on Zoom will have the chance to ask questions throughout the evening. It's then expected to wrap up around 8.30pm.

The best part? The event is entirely free.
