Overview

Affordable Art Fair is out to shake up the perception that good art is only for those with money to burn — and it's been doing so since it first launched in London back in 1999. Fast forward to next week and the international event will be back to offer Melburnians an affordable art fix, hitting the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from Thursday, September 1–Sunday, September 4.

Expect a more accessible, less pretentious art-buying experience than the stuffy traditional art fairs of old, as 40 local and international galleries showcase works from both established and emerging talent.

The lineup will feature quality pieces for all budgets, topping out at $10,000, and with the works available to wrap and take home the same day of purchase. It'll be a broad range, too, with everything from large-scale sculptures to contemporary oil paintings on sale.

What's more, there'll be plenty of other artistic goodness to sink your teeth into — including a captivating AR experience led by choreographer Yuh Egami (the Hong Kong Ballet); an Artists in Action hub where you can watch the magic happen live; and the Young Talent Victoria exhibition showcasing works by five as-yet-unrepresented local artists under the age of 35.
