Overview

If you're looking to set the tone for some top-notch eating in 2023, we've found the ultimate place to start. Through January and February, social enterprise Free to Feed is dishing up a multicultural bounty of goodness as part of its Summer Feasts series.

The not-for-profit hosts food experiences aimed at helping refugees and people seeking asylum overcome social and economic barriers. And, working with talented cooks from all corners of the globe, it's delivered some pretty special dining events — and delicious cultural exchanges — during its time.

Next up, Summer Feasts will take over Free to Feed's North Fitzroy events space for a program of intimate home-style dinners clocking in at just $55 per person. Each event will see one of the organisation's culinarily-gifted participants share the flavours and stories of their culture via a generous shared feast.

Take your tastebuds on an international adventure via Yuliia's Ukranian feast (February 10), featuring dishes like pirozhki (pastries with egg, dill and spring onion), a layered salad known as 'sardines under a fur coat', and a Kyiv-style cake with meringue and toasted hazelnuts. Or perhaps Halima's Somalian spread (February 17), starring bariis (a coloured rice dish), deep-fried plantains, traditional Somali-style canjeelo bread with tomato and coriander, and peanut baklava.

Spots are filling up fast — get in quick to nab a seat at one of the last remaining dinners.
