Overview
Calling all fledging feminists and women of all denominations, the aptly-named Girl Germs summit is happening this month as part of the 2015 Girls on Film Festival programme. Girl Germs is an all-day event for celebrating women and instilling in the next generation that they really can do anything.
To this end, they’ve included a jobs fair which features panel discussions with local feminist producers, comedians, musicians and academics in an attempt to do away with the paradigm that conditions young girls to lean heavily towards ‘feminine’ professions. The event also features more light-hearted entertainment, including a zine fair, jam sessions with all-girl rockers MISS MISS and The Girl Fridas and a screening of roller derby flick Whip It (screening tickets sold separately).
“We’re so incredibly excited at GOFF HQ because all we want is for feminists of every age to feel like there are lots of us, that there are fun and amazing things happening, that we can fight our fight and party hardy, that activism is more than just megaphones and barricades, and that we’re all in this together,” says GOFF managing director Isobel Taylor-Rodgers.
