Overview

Michelangelo famously said that inside every block of stone is a statue, and that it is the task of the sculptor to find it. A similar principle applies to the Grey Eye Society's social drawing classes — except you're the block of stone, the chisel is a couple of glasses of vino, and the chances of finding the statue of David are slightly slimmer.

Led by Andrzej Nowicki out of Pixel/Foolscap studio in Hardware lane, the two-hour classes are open to all skill levels and focus on the techniques and methods of mark making from different artist each week.

Style isn't the only aspect you will draw (pardon the pun) from the artistic greats, with Grey Eye Society collaborator Pete Lloyd bringing to life the time, history and temperament of those studied by specially curating a selection of relevant wines to help get those creative juices flowing. Although we'd argue that all wine is relevant for any given occasion, this will surely bring out the Picasso in all of us.

The course runs between July 24 and August 21, and with classes capped at 10 people, you’ll need to book in advance to make sure you get first dibs. This intimate experience costs $280 for the entire five weeks, including all drawing materials and wines. Skills to pay the bills, free of charge.
