Overview

There is nothing quite as comforting as a perfect cheese toastie. Both delicious and nostalgic, it is a go-to on any winter day. And luckily for us, Maker & Monger will be elevating the toastie experience this winter from August 5, for a limited-time only.

Melbourne's favourite cheese connoisseurs, Maker & Monger, are gearing up to celebrate their eight-year anniversary with Friends of Fromage, a culinary event to whet any appetite. Across weekends in August and into September, the Maker & Monger stall at the Prahran Market will play host to a series of tasty toastie creations crafted by some of Australia's best chefs.

The series will include 'The Hot Mess' by MasterChef winner, Diana Chan. Imagine a spicy chilli crab toastie with sweet and tangy tomato sauce, topped with a silky béchamel (September 5, 6). Also on the list is Embla chef, Dave Verheul's 'Siciliano', featuring cime di rapa, chilli, provolone, and fennel sausage sautéed in wine (August 12, 13). Tom Sarafian will be bringing an Armenian toastie to the table made with basturma, goat's chèvre, fresh herbs and barbecued peppers on the cult-favourite All Are Welcome seeded sourdough (August, 26, 27). Plus, the monger himself, Anthony Femia, will be debuting his 'Mac Attack' toastie with a trio of Luscious comté and Montgomery's cheddar béchamel, reggiano crust and a side of stilton dipping sauce (August 5, 6).

If all that dairy is too much for your stomach to handle, then be sure to check out Shannon Martinez's 'Family' toastie, a vegan treat that's low on lactose but big on love (August 19, 20).
