Say Cheese 2020
Prahran Market's cheesiest festival is heading online for 2020.
Overview
This spring, Prahran Market is hosting its seventh annual Say Cheese Festival. But, like many 2020 events, this edition will be virtual — and across three days instead of one. For the uninitiated (or those who haven't previously attended and devoured all the dairy they can), it's essentially an event dedicated to looking at, learning about and eating a whole lot of cheese — and buying even more to eat later.
This year's virtual festival will feature three cook-along (and snack-along) events. First up, on Thursday, September 10, you can order a box of 14 different cheeses (for $55) to your home and take your tastebuds on a tour for the Around the World with Cheese tasting hosted by chef Tobit Puttock. The virtual tasting part of the event is free, with registration over here.
Then, on Friday, September 11, you can join Sweet Greek's Kathy Tsaples in cooking up a three-course Greek feast with spicy feta dip, saganaki with thyme-infused honey, cheese and spinach pita and ricotta cheesecake (yes, it is a cheese festival). Recipe kit boxes (for $120) can also be delivered to your house if you're keen to partake.
Plus, some of Melbourne's best chefs — including Jerry Mai, Philip Vakos and Raph Rashid — will go head to head in in Melbourne's third Grilled Cheese Invitational to determine who cooks up the best combo of grilled cheese on bread. Of course, whipping up your own cheesy creation while watching at home is strongly encouraged.
If you're keen to get your daily dose of cheese before September, Prahran Market is offering delivery from 41 market traders, including cheese masters Maker & Monger via its Food Lovers' Direct online store.
