Wisteria Spring Blooms at Montsalvat
There are two ways to catch this fleeting wisteria display, including exclusive daytime access and a one-night wine bar beneath the blooms.
Overview
Tucked into Eltham's leafy hills, Montsalvat is Australia's oldest continuously operating artist collective, founded over 90 years ago. Blending art, architecture, and beautiful scenery, the community is embracing spring by inviting guests to enjoy its brilliant wisteria in full bloom, with the poolside terrace transformed each year by a cascade of purple wisteria flowers.
Running alongside the estate's long gallery, these flowering vines were planted over 80 years ago and have become one of Montsalvat's most cherished seasonal wonders. Yet visitors must act fast to see them at their most enchanting. The burst of violet only lasts two to three weeks, with peak season arriving in mid-September and quickly fading for another year.

In 2026, Montsalvat presents two ways to experience the blooms. The first — running from 10am–4pm across Wednesday, September 23–Sunday, October 11 — is the same as previous years, where guests can pre-book exclusive access to the area directly beneath the canopy to capture the perfect pics that are magical in their own right, and bound to pop on the feed.
However, there's an even more special way to get immersed in the flowers, as the Wisteria Wine Bar hosts a one-night-only event from 4–8pm on Friday, October 2. With every ticket including a complimentary beer or wine, the team is shifting their evening wine bar right beneath the wisteria for a short-lived moment of purple-hued goodness.
