Overview

The arts world doesn't go into hibernation when the cold season arrives. In fact, the highly anticipated Woodend Winter Arts Festival (WWAF) is one of the most exciting events on the entire calendar, giving passionate aesthetes and budding fans an excellent excuse to immerse themselves in a sprawling program of music, film, and words and ideas events.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, WWAF returns to Woodend in the scenic Macedon Ranges from Friday, June 6–Monday, June 9, with world-class performers joined by some of Australia's brightest minds for a series of incredible performances and discussions. Immersed in a relaxed village setting, this series of free and ticketed events makes for a stirring cultural experience.

Highlights across this year's music program include Anne Harvey-Nagl, a celebrated violinist and the concertmaster of the Volksoper Vienna. Meanwhile, Moroccan vocalist Lamiae Naki and her ensemble Seffarine will share the musical heritage of the Straits of Gibraltar alongside a flamenco dance performance.

As part of the Words & Ideas program, WWAF features Jane Austen's great niece, Caroline Jane Knight, on the 250th anniversary of the iconic novelist's birth, while renowned art consultant Christopher Menz will explore the influential pattern designs of William Morris. With loads more to explore, heading to WWAF in 2025 makes for the ideal winter escape.
