Spread across several city blocks, this iconic market has been running since 1935. Though the wholesale inner market moved to Toyosu in 2018, the Outer Market continues to thrive as a major attraction for travellers wanting to sample some of the freshest fish in Japan. Lining each narrow alleyway are tantalising restaurants and food stands serving sushi, wagyu, curries and more. This busy labyrinth also offers numerous stores dedicated to culinary wares, like santoku kitchen knives and chawan tea bowls. The market opens just as the sun rises so head down early to avoid the crowds.
