Sydney has no shortage of opinions about charcoal chicken, so 2DayFM decided to settle the argument properly. The station asked listeners to nominate their favourites, narrowed the list to seven finalists, then sent 30 self-confessed chicken obsessives on a bus around Sydney for the Chicken Shop Showdown. After a full day of eating, Char'd Chicken in Belfield took the crown, officially named Sydney's best charcoal chicken. The shop, which has locations in Belfield, Eastern Creek, and St Clair, comes from James Estephan, cousin of the family behind El Jannah, so there's plenty of charcoal-chicken knowledge in the room. But Estephan's secret sauce is quite literally in the marinade, which gives the chicken its deep savoury flavour before it hits the grill and picks up that smoky char. Order a whole chicken for the family and add chips, pickles and Char'd's signature garlic sauce. There are also wraps, burgers, and other sides for weeknights when you just don't feel like cooking.
