It's time to say goodbye to Melbourne Museum's 'ROME: Empire, Power, People' exhibition when it finally closes on Sunday, October 25. But before it does, the museum is following up its sold-out Italian-inspired party from earlier this year with a new instalment: Discoteca Italiana Arrivederci Roma. Taking place on Friday, October 16, this one-night-only affair brings feel-good disco, Italo house, Latin grooves and global rhythms to the museum, headlined by the sun-drenched tunes of Disco Mediterranea, the cultural project of DJs Marco Salzano and Luca Muscato, who are also behind Carlton's Super Norma. Also on the night, lover of all things throwback dance music The D Word will help lead the dance floor, while an all-Italian menu, including gelato and cannoli from Brunetti's, is complemented by classic Med-inspired drinks and cocktails behind the bar, from Segafredo espresso martinis to classic negronis. Opened in April, ROME: Empire, Power, People explored the rise, rule and legacy of perhaps history's greatest empire. Tracing the sprawling civilisation, which spanned three enormous continents at its peak, this culminating party also includes late-night access to the exhibition for those yet to catch it during daylight hours.
