Izakaya by Tamura

The best extension of a standout saké bar? Not one but two floors of izakaya around it.

Overview

Few dining favourites go hand in hand quite like izakaya and saké. So when Tamura Saké took off, the clock started ticking before an izakaya offering would expand beyond what Tamura could initially handle. Izakaya by Tamura was what was on the other end of that timer.

Some may be surprised to learn that the venue is split across two levels, with Tamura's original saké-focused digs in the middle. Downstairs is the lively little sibling, with Japanese pub vibes complemented by regular live music. The edible offering is concentrated around ramen and daily specials like two-for-one yakitori on Mondays and $1 JFC when purchasing a drink.

Upstairs is the distinguished older sibling — the kind that sets the bar of parental approval way too high — which boasts a relaxing blue stone interior. Food-wise you have your pick of four set menus, with izakaya classic, sushi and sashimi set, yakitori set and tamura deluxe on offer.

Drinks are flexible, with a generous happy hour on offer daily in the downstairs space from 4-6pm, with the likes of saké, rosé and whisky highballs bringing refreshment to wash down those scrumptious snacks. The best part? You've got two venues to explore inside the same building, no matter where you start.

Visit Izakaya by Tamura this April and May to experience a Suntory Toki Whisky Highball and snack pairing. More details at the Suntory Time hub here.
