Overview

Mentone's always-bustling New York-style pizza shop, Sunnyside Sliced, has opened a second store, this time heading into the city. Designed for quick service, tasty bites and a convenient pop-in en route to the footy, the new slice shop is adding to a developing part of the CBD.

Ali Cengiz's neighbourhood pizza joint, Sunnyside Sliced, has become well-loved for its thin, crisp, large-format slices, offering a tight and traditional array of crowd-pleasing toppings. Long-fermented dough is topped with the likes of pepperoni and Sunnyside Cheese, partially baked before service, and finished to order.

"Mentone gave us proof of concept. It showed us that people really connect with what we're doing. From there, it became about access. We wanted to bring Sunnyside to more people and meet the demand that has been building across Melbourne," says Cengiz.

So Cengiz set his sights on a growing part of the CBD, finding a spot on La Trobe Street next to Marvel Stadium. "I've been going to the stadium for years to watch Carlton, and the food offering has always felt like an afterthought. We want Sunnyside to be the place people meet before the game or stop by afterwards. Meet at Sunnyside."

Sip on a classic Arnold Palmer (an American favourite combination of iced tea and lemonade) or grab your own from the soda fountain for a hint of nostalgic, child-like joy.
