New Zealand Festival is Bringing Us Sufjan Stevens And Many More Magical Acts
Including a reinterpretation of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, Miranda July, Calexico and a Salvador Dali-inspired theatre piece.
While calling oneself The New Zealand Festival is a bit presumptuous and misleading considering New Zealand has plenty of festivals, and the festival doesn't actually just feature New Zealand-based acts, we're quite happy to forgive the misnomer given the incredible lineup the Wellington festival have recently unveiled.
Included in the extensive offering is Sufjan Stevens, the folk artist with a cult-like trail of admirers, the Salvador Dali-inspired La Verita, a surrealist acrobatic-theatre-dance-music hybrid performance; an interactive performance piece from Miranda July, award-winning filmmaker, bestselling author and artist (for a taster of her style, have a gander at her recent interview with Rihanna); Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch's reinterpretation of the still-avant garde Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring; and performances from Calexico and Phoenix Foundation.
And that's just the highlights reel. For an extensive breakdown of the interesting acts that'll be performing come February 2016, follow this hyperlink to see the full programme.
