There's a Poetry Exhibition Happening in Antarctica and Your Work Could Be In It
This is not a drill, people.
Good news everyone, you could be displaying some of your poetry in the Antarctic this summer. The entries for the newly launched Antarctic Poetry Exhibition are now open.
The exhibition will be held at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, but there is a catch – every poet whose poem gets selected will have to display that same poem somewhere public (and sentimental to them) in the part of the world where they're from. Photos will then be taken of the poem in both the Antarctic and of the poem in its other public location and digitally displayed side-by-side with a description of the significance of each location attached.
The exhibition's organiser, 25-year-old Auckland native Laetitia Laubscher, said she was inspired to organise the exhibition to help people form an emotional bond with the stark continent by digitally connecting everyday sentimental places with the Antarctic through poetry. "I wanted to find a way of connecting the Antarctic to the world, to make people care about its precarious future."
Poems must be inspired either abstractly or directly by the Antarctic. Entries are due at the end of August. For more information see the Antarctic Poetry Exhibition website and Facebook page.
