Lorde’s ‘Royals’ Banned From San Francisco Radio
I've never seen a baseball in the flesh.
Although it's been dominant force across the airwaves for a solid 12 months, Lorde's breakout hit 'Royals' is set to be temporarily banned from the radio in one US city. The reason...baseball.
On Tuesday, San Francisco baseball team, the Giants, will kick off their World Series battle against the Kansas City Royals. To show their loyalty to the team, two local San Francisco radio stations are banning 'Royals' from the radio.
KFOG Radio wrote on their Facebook page: “No offense, Lorde, but for the duration of the World Series, KFOG Radio will be a 'Royals'-free zone. We’re sure you understand.”
KOIT Radio followed suit after complaints. “We’ve had several emails and social media comments stating that we should remove ‘Royals’ by Lorde until the San Francisco Giants win the World Series,” Program Director Brian Figula explained. “Our listeners told us to do it, so we did it! As of 4 p.m. today we’ve removed Lorde – ‘Royals’ from the our playlist until the end of the World Series. Go Giants, beat the Royals! You are in a #Royals free-zone.”
A Kansas City station responded by stating that they would play the track every hour from 7 am to 7 pm on the first day of the series.
