New Zealand’s Top 5 Social Bands
Concrete Playground finds New Zealand's Top 5 social bands.
Fanship is surely a sign of a band's success and level of admiration. We scoured through Facebook to see who are New Zealand's most influential bands on the world's most influential social network. These guys no longer rely on the New Zealand audience to make a career, and are constantly found on the touring circuits across the globe.
Concrete Playground's Top 5 Social Bands are:
1. Naked and Famous - 196,000+
Undoubtedly the best act to have come out of New Zealand in recent years, The Naked and Famous have taken the world by storm with their indie pop rock anthems, embracing an online generation which is evident in their 196k+ fanship. Add to this their latest video which has been banned by Television and You Tube, I think this is only just the beginning.
2. Katchafire - 194,000+
Mention these guys in Hawaii and you will be sure to get a high five. Katchafire have cleverly solidified their position as one of the world's most requested reggae bands.
3. Fat Freddy's Drop - 177,000+
Heavily embraced throughout Europe, America, well pretty much everywhere, Fat Freddy's Drop are still riding the wave of success off their first studio album Based on a True Story.
4. Ladyhawke - 153,000+
5. Shapeshifter - 103,000+
Sometimes referred to as New Zealand Shapeshifter, they have been heralded as a musical phenomenon for their ground breaking live shows and unique blend of heavy soul with drum and bass.
(Special Mention) Crowded House - 92,000+
These guys almost made the Top 5, and arguably they started it all. Piss off Australia, they are ours.
Other reputable bands are Mt Eden Dubstep (72,290), Six 60 (69,000), The Black Seeds (66,000), Dane Rumble (58,000) I Am Giant (44,000), and you could argue that Miami Horror (51,000) and Kimbra (24,500) are infact Kiwi influenced? Flight of the Conchord's (1,433,000) would also be a debatable entry. Any others we have missed? Comment below.
