Silo Park Drops Its Huge 2018-19 Summer Program
Heading into its eighth season with a jam-packed schedule of films, markets and events under the stars.
The time of year has come to put your Netflix account on hold and venture outdoors to get your motion picture fix. Silo Park has unveiled the program for its eighth season with a jam-packed schedule of films, food markets and events taking place under the stars at the waterfront community space.
The 2018-19 season kicks off on 21 December with three days of Christmas festivities. The first Friday night event will feature the ever-popular Silo bar and a free yuletide classic selected by public vote. Take your pick from: A Wonderful Life, Gremlins, Home Alone or Love Actually. In the spirit of Christmas, proceeds from popcorn sales will be donated to The Auckland City Mission.
From there, the lineup of films to screen on the former petrochemical silos includes a selection of freshly released blockbusters and timeless classics. Dust off your picnic rug and head down early to nab a spot for: The Incredibles 2, Black Panther, Isle of Dogs, The Princess Bride, Jurassic Park, Whale Rider and heaps more.
Early 2018 highlights include a family friendly event on 12 January to build a massive cardboard city from recycled materials, and the return of the ice cream sundae market on 27 January. The event will see Auckland's top ice creameries come together to scoop modern interpretations on the summer treat.
Elsewhere, the Car Boot Sale of the Future on 9 February will offer trinkets, treasures and gems from the garage and beyond, food rescue organisation Kiwi Harvest will host a one-off event, and World on the Street will welcome four weekends dedicated to global street food, beginning with a celebration of Māori and Pasifika culture on 16 February.
The 2018-19 Silo season will take place from 21 December and 31 March. For the full program and more information, visit silopark.co.nz.
