Klein Constantia
They're bringing the Vin de Constance.
Overview
A strain of wine that Napoleon Bonaparte requested on his death bed and that the Queen of England floods from the rafters of Buckingham Palace is making a trip to New Zealand this month.
The infamous South African dessert wine, Vin de Constance, will come in tow with the winemaker and viticulturist from Klein Constantia, the country's first wine making farm. Matt Day and Craig Harris are making their way down under to do some research on our nation's prize-winning sauvignon blanc in Marlborough and to share their knowledge of the Klein Constantia wines. The visit comes after Ponsonby Road Bistro proprietor Melissa Morrow and head chef Sarah Conway were personally hosted at the Cape Town vineyard earlier this year.
To mark the occasion, Chef Conway has created a range of dishes inspired by the region to match the flight of six Klein Constantia wines, including the Vin de Constance. As well as its high flying advocates, the wine is highly regarded due to its disappearance in the late nineteenth century after The Great Wine Blight. It made a come back in 1986 courtesy of Klein Constantia.
The four-course Klein Constantia dinner will be held at Ponsonby Road Bistro on Wednesday 21 September with cocktail and canapes served on arrival. Tickets are $125.00 per person with wine matches. Email [email protected] to book.
