Road to Beervana 2020
Axe throwing, boozy bingo and cocktail trails lead the lineup for this year's craft beer celebration.
Overview
For ten days every year Road to Beervana shows the national beer community how it's done with paired dinners, featured breweries, interactive themed bars and general ex-beer-iences. It's all in the lead up to the country's largest craft beer festival, Beervana. This year there are 17 beer-focused events taking place across the capital from 13–21 November.
The Great Wellington Beer Quiz will see teams taste their way through a selection of local craft drops while putting their beer knowledge to the test. The evening involves blind tastings and general knowledge questions. For another night of competition, Panhead Custom Ales is presenting a raucous edition of Bogan Bingo.
Double Vision hopes to uncover the next big beer trend with its cocktail trail. The event will see old-school cocktails flipped upside-down with the brewery's range of suds — from lagers to APAs. From out of town comes Auckland craft beer hub Churly's with fresh Behemoth Brewing releases and American-style deli sandwiches, while the lineup is rounded off with an American barbecue bottomless brunch, beer-fuelled axe throwing and a beer-rum treasure hunt.
The main event hits Sky Stadium on 20 and 21 November featuring more than 50 breweries from Whangarei to Invercargill. From outrageous brewery displays to karaoke vans, mind-bending festival beers to crayfish cheese rolls, it's a veritable wonderland for beer lovers.
