Overview

In New Zealand there are some 56,000 kilometres of paper roads – streets and towns that exist only on surveyors’ maps. The Road That Wasn't There follows a young women who followed the map off the edge of world and found herself in the world of paper. In this land of possibility she soon discovers that things that happen in the fictional world can have frighteningly real consequences.

The Road That Wasn't There is a brilliant dark fairytale play from an award-winning company Trick of the Light, combining puppetry, shadow play, and live music. The 3-person 53-puppet play, which is set in three distinct New Zealand eras (the gold rush, the depression and the modern day) interweaves traditional New Zealand folklore with modern urban legends.

The play will be performed at the Circa Theatre from July 8 until July 19.
