You and I Experience
If you were a song, what would you sound like?
Overview
According to the 'International Book of Feelings', one of the most rewarding things you can receive is your very own song. For those of us who aren't in supply of an emotion-gushing musician, there's another way to receive a musical dedication.
As part of NZ Music Month, Auckland Central City Library has arranged a bunch of local songsmiths to speak the universal language of music to complete strangers. The 'You and I Experience' intends to answer the burning question — if you were a song, what would you sound like? A heart-jerking ballad? A 20-minute sludge-rock epic? Now's your chance to find out.
For the rest of May, across 12 one-hour sessions, members of the public are invited to sit in front of a composer who then creates a musical conversation inspired or manipulated by whoever is sitting in front of them. For 3-5 minutes, artist and participant are connected by music only they can hear.
Creating those special moments will be composers Chris O' Connor (drummer for The Phoenix Foundation, Nadia Reid, Don McGlashan, Neil Finn and SJD), Joel Vinsen (guitarist for Ijebu Pleasure Club), and keyboardist Chrissie Hart.
