The Bluff oyster season kicks off on March 1 and runs until the end of August or whenever the harvest quota has been reached. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the Southland aphrodisiacs this year, from shucking good buy one, get one deals to deep-fried delicacies.

Bluff oysters are back on the menu at this harbourside seafood restaurant — and its celebrating with two celebratory deals. To start, you can buy one dozen natural Bluffies and receive the second dozen free. Thirsty diners can order a bottle of Mumm Grand Cordon champagne with dozen natural oysters thrown in for only $120. Either way, your fresh kai moana experience will be complemented with harbour views.

Briny oysters certainly go down well with bubbly, but how about ice-cool beer? Every weekday in March you'll have the chance to find out at Boulcott Street Bistro. Roll down to the landmark restaurant and wine bar between 12–4pm and pair one dozen natural Bluff oysters — with a chardonnay shallot vinaigrette — and a frosty one for just $30.
DOCKSIDE RESTAURANT & BAR, QUEENS WHARF
Get your tiny forks ready. Premium seaside dining destination Dockside is now offering pre-sale bookings to guarantee your Bluffies. The briny delights will set you back $36 for a half dozen and $69 for the full plate of 12. Eager oyster lovers are encouraged to call ahead and secure their fill.
THE CHIPPERY, MOUNT VICTORIA AND THORNDON
Wellington's much-loved The Chippery will take your al naturel Bluff oysters and plop them straight into the deep fryer. At both the Mount Vic and Thorndon outposts, you can pick up the seasonal delicacies battered in beer, tempura or gluten-free batter for $4.90 a pop. While you're there, it'd be rude not add on some hand-cut argria or crinkle-cut fries. Then, all you need to do is find a spot to enjoy your dinner down by the iconic Oriental Bay Boatsheds.
