Find Fried Chicken and Thai Bloody Marys on Saan's New Brunch Menu
Expand your morning palate.
Walk a couple of blocks down from Ponsonby Central and you'll find the stark wood and white fit-out of trendy Thai restaurant, Saan. If you already know it, you're doing well, but if you're new to the area, you've found the restaurant in perfect time for its brand new brunch launch. That's right folks, Thai Bloody Marys on a Saturday morning.
The restaurant will be serving delicious morning Thai dishes from 11am to 4pm across both Saturday and Sunday — the perfect option when you want to branch out from the classic eggs Benedict or smashed avo. Like most of chef Lek's offerings, the dishes are daring and full of flavour. His take on cuisine from the Lanna (Northern) and Isaan (North Eastern) regions of Thailand will encourage Kiwis to expand their morning palates with chilli, curry and steamed rice. It's only a radical concept if you've never left New Zealand.
On offer is a Northern-style Thai sausage served with wok-fried eggs, grilled catch of the day with vermicelli noodles in a red curry, fried chicken with a spicy green papaya salad (now we're talking) and a traditional sticky rice. If you want to bring the kids along, Saan has them covered with mild and chilli-free dishes, delicious non-alcoholic cocktails and Thai tea for all. For vegetarians, there's a salted tofu Miang which is a savoury snack served in a leaf, it's flavourful and comes in a set of three. No, we won't be sharing.
So, if you've finished the work week and are longing for a trip to Thailand, take the first step by starting your Saturday morning with some of the best Thai cuisine Auckland has to offer, and break up your morning routine.
Who knows, it may even inspire you to spontaneously book a holiday too.
