Although Auckland is a hive of activity and things to do and see, sometimes in a world where public is the new private, you just want to have yourself a go-to regular and private joint where the staff greet you at the door by your name. In that sense, it totally pays to join a club. Especially if that club - i.e. Seafarers - has the best rooftop bar in Auckland (okay, something to be best enjoyed in summer, but still), an entire menu designed by Michelin Star awarded chef Josh Emett and an interesting range of talks and members events offered regularly. (This month Seafarers have the manager of platinum selling artist KT Tunstall - remember that song 'Suddenly I See'? Yeah, her manager - stopping by for a chat, Oscar Kightley of bro'Town fame will talk through his career, and Nathan Haines will be doing a winter residency from atop the view-drenched Seafarers building.)
Another really cool feature of Seafarers is its reciprocal club system - meaning that the next time you leave our shores you'll be welcomed at other members-only clubs around the world - including the Brody Studios in Budapest (brb, booking flights), the Norwood Club in New York, The Spoke Club in Toronto and a few other places scattered across the globe.
Annual subscriptions are $1500. See their website for more details.
