Calling all vampire lovers: for one weekend only, Sydney's historic Darling House will open its doors after dark for a fully immersive Dracula audio experience. To celebrate the release of Audible's new adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 gothic classic, you'll be able to step into the shoes of heroine Mina Harker and move through the house, piecing together the story of Dracula as you go.
Despite its spooky setting, there are no haunted-house theatrics here. Instead, hidden clues are scattered throughout the house, rewarding anyone who pays close attention. Guests will also receive a Dracula-inspired journal and a chance to snap a pic at the photo booth.
The experience (which is recommended for people aged 16 and over) will take place across Friday 16 and Saturday October 17, with small groups moving through the house in timed 30-minute sessions. Given how exclusive the event is, there are a limited number of tickets up for grabs, so be sure to round up the group chat quickly to not miss out. Arrive dressed in your best gothic finery to immerse yourself in the famous story. Plus, tickets are just $20 per person, making it an affordable night out in Sydney.
Rather than a quick haunted-house dash, expect an atmospheric, slow-building, audio-led journey into one of literature's most enduring gothic stories. The event is all to celebrate Audible's global release of Dracula in seven languages: English, Castilian Spanish, French, German, Italian, Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Each version features its own full-cast audio production, bringing the novel's characters to life through an ensemble of voices.

For the English-language production, the star-studded cast includes Jonathan Bailey as Dracula, alongside Ella Purnell as Mina, Aimee Lou Wood as Lucy, Louis Partridge as Jonathan and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Professor Van Helsing, among others. And if it's been a minute since you read Dracula in high school English class, here's a synopsis.
When her fiancé vanishes in Transylvania, Mina Harker pieces together fragments of letters, diary entries and chilling testimony to hunt the predator stalking those she loves, only to discover he's already hunting her. When Mina's closest friend Lucy succumbs to his thrall, the enigmatic Professor Van Helsing is summoned to wage war on this unfathomable threat. But it is Mina, with her intellect, her resolve, her gift for drawing unseen lines between clues, who may hold the key to stopping this ancient predator, if he hasn't already found his way inside her mind.
So, whether you're a lifelong dark academia Dracula fan or simply like the idea of wandering through a historic Sydney house after dark with Jonathan Bailey's crooning narration in your ear, this event is worth adding to the calendar.
