Win One of Ten Double Passes to David Bowie Is
A journey through the creative headspace of David Bowie.

While London's Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is best known for collections like post-classical sculpture and East Asian ceramics and metalwork, the museum's fastest selling exhibition ever was inspired by a chameleonic pop star whose alter egos span a red mullet adorning Martian messiah, a would-be romantic with no emotions at all, and a goblin king.
Launched in 2013 at the V&A, the David Bowie Is exhibition is a retrospective showcase celebrating the music icon's career and style. The collection features more than 300 items from the David Bowie Archive, including original stage costumes, photos, handwritten lyrics, album artwork, set designs and diary entries revealing the evolution of his ideas.
Following its appearance in London, the exhibition embarked on a global tour with a glowing response. While our Trans-Tasman neighbours will be lucky enough to see the real thing for themselves when it stops by Melbourne's ACMI later this year, New Zealand Bowie fans will have to make do with a cinematic tour of the original exhibition.
Directed by BAFTA Award winner Hamish Hamilton, the David Bowie Is documentary was filmed during the closing night of the V&A installation. It seeks to take the audience on a journey through Bowie's creative headspace, showcasing his influence on fashion, art, music, and modern culture. It features appearances by Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, and insight from exhibition curators, Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh.
David Bowie Is will play out in cinemas from May 21.
