If you haven't already locked down plans to celebrate the new year, perhaps the first lineup for Northern Bass will put the wheels in motion. The eighth edition of the bass-heavy festival will be held across three days and three nights at its usual home in Mangawhai this December.

More than 30 artists have been announced in the festival's first lineup. Making his way across international waters to ring in 2019 will be New York rapper, chef and F*ck That's Delicious star Action Bronson. It will be Bronson's first New Zealand appearance since performing at Auckland City Limits in 2016.

At the top of the bill he's joined by Jamaican via London emcee Stefflon Don, live trap outfit Keys n Krates and local drum and bass legends Shapeshifter. Completing the international drum and bass contingent are London Elektricity, Danny Byrd, S.P.Y and Dynamite MC as part of a Hospital Records takeover.

Elsewhere on the bill there's rising rapper JessB, grime artists AJ Tracey and Ocean Wisdom, Jurassic 5 turntablist DJ Nu-Mark and genre-melding artist Eva Lazarus.
