Typically held in the heart of the French Alps, Snowboxx is a multi-discipline winter festival that shines a spotlight on electronic music and snowsports. The event was previously expected to arrive in 2019 — and then 2020. Today it has been announced that the event will slide Down Under this September to host one week of international acts, slope-side parties and more off-mountain experiences in New Zealand's adventure capital.

Landing between Treble Cone and Cardrona from 7–14 September, Snowboxx will hit the alpine resort and surrounding 900 hectares of mountainous terrain, with a series of outdoor stages to recreate the European edition. The event is now in its eighth year at the French alpine resort of Avoriaz, with past sell-out parties including the likes of Fat Boy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Stormzy, Grandmaster Flash, 2ManyDJs and Mike Skinner.

With support from the promotors of local music festival Rhythm and Alps, Snowboxx Queenstown promises, "a truly unforgettable experience at an affordable price."

An avalanche of local artists lead the lineup for the first-ever New Zealand edition. Playing at the week-long party will be Shapeshifter in a scaled-down version of their full band experience, bass-driven electronic duo Lee Mvtthews and drum and bass powerhouse Concord Dawn.

Also on the eclectic bill is Rubi Du, Melodownz, Kédu Carlö, Sly Chaos, Fairbrother, Tali, Chicorelli and The Peacekeepers.

As well as letting loose in snowy mosh pits and hitting renowned ski fields — from beginner slopes to night skiing — attendees will be invited to enjoy on and off-mountain activities like bottomless brunches, igloo parties, comedy nights, snowball fights and aprés ski experiences throughout the week.

Packages include seven nights of accommodation in Wānaka and a festival wristband starting at $440 per person. The full artist lineup and fun-filled program to be announced. To register and find out more, visit snowboxx.nz
