Shapeshifter and Fat Freddy's Drop Are Once Again Headlining Summer Haze in Tauranga and Matakana

Because it's not summer until you're grooving to 'Wandering Eye' or 'In Colour' in a park with your friends.

Two of New Zealand's iconic music acts are ready to once again bring their widely loved tunes to this year's summer festi season — and this time they're bringing an international rock act along for the ride.

Shapeshifter and Fat Freddy's Drop are headlining Summer Haze for the second year,  with two shows across Tauranga and Matakana. This time they are bringing Aussie rockers King Gizzard the Lizard Wizard along with them, and organisers say there are still more acts to be announced.

Things will kick off at Tauranga's Wharepai Domain on Thursday, December 29, 2022 as a little pre-New Year's pep-up, with the second Summer Haze show set to go ahead at Matakana Country Park on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 — to help shake off some of that New Year's dust.

In a statement, Shapeshifter said they were "stoked to perform again" with their good friends Fat Freddy's Drop and alongside King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard — "we are blessed to be able to see these two epic acts twice!"

"Tauranga and Matakana, we can't wait to perform for you, stay safe and catch you soon."

More info and acts are yet to be announced, but those keen to see in 2023 with a bit of Shapeys and Freddy's will probably want to get their mitts on the first release tickets — neither act features on the first lineups for their usual New Year's haunts like Northern Bass, R&V and R&A.

Tickets for both iterations of Summer Haze are on sale now — a first-release GA pass costs $117.
