Housing over 60 different types of barley brews, the Latin craft beer bar Bebemos (Spanish for "we drink/let's drink") promises a nirvana-like experience for any beer enthusiast. They aren't too bad at burgers either, as we later found out.

Diving into the promising little drinks menu, I soon settled on a Mussell Inn Captain Cooker ($9.50), a beer the bartender informs me was made in Nelson. I finished it quickly enough, appreciating the lightness. Even though it is 'honey-infused', the Captain Cooker's flavour is more alluring than pungently sweet, a trap most other manufacturers of honey-infused products fall into. A well-made beer all in all.

We then let our hungry eyes scan across the meal section of the menu, marked 'comida' — a nice Spanish touch — and settle on the burgers.

My friend orders the Gaucho Burger, and in between bites happily murmurs, "I don't know, but something in this is really, really good." (He's not a professional reviewer.) A few bites later he says it's the best burger he's ever had, even better than Auckland's famous Big J's. I don't try to get any more adjectives out of him, seeing as he's quite intoxicated with this burgery creation (and I've learnt better than to interrupt a man's eating time with conversation).

Meanwhile, my burger, the Vege Burger goes down a treat too. I especially like the cushy texture the entire burger had, everything from the soft but slightly crispy black bean patty to the ease with which you could sink your teeth through the layer of avocado. I was only a little bit disappointed to find a lack of chimichurri spicy flavour running through the burger, meaning that although it was a 10/10 texture, the overall flavour of the burger was very safe.

All in all it's a bar to try for its craft beers, its burgers, its outside area and the cool little (working) arcade machine in the corner. Bebemos?
