Overview

Christmas shopping for someone special or just looking to invest in some wear-and-wear-again type pieces? We've got your first stop in a shopping trip around Te Whanganui a-Tara. New Zealand heritage brand Standard Issue has just opened its first brick-and-mortar Wellington store and it's just as chic and timeless as you'd expect.

Known for its zero-waste policy and championing of local natural fibres, Standard Issue has been a staple in New Zealanders' wardrobes since it was first founded in 1981. As part of the slow fashion movement, Standard Issue has eliminated textile cast-offs and uses only 100 percent renewable or recycled natural fibres.

The brand's clothing is made in limited runs to prevent over-production and each garment comes as part of the 'care for life' programme — with a promise to renew, reuse or repurpose each knit in a circular life cycle.

If that all sounds like a bit of you you've got a brick-and-mortar location to check out their new limited-run collections — the new Standard Issue store can be found in the Old Bank Arcade, Wellington's iconic heritage-listed boutique shopping centre. Design team Wonder Group have kept the space as untouched, as possible — including showcasing the original mouldings — to honour the building's history and "Standard Issue's farm-to-table origins".

But it's still a calm, modern space ready to browse — stop by and check it out for Christmas gift buying or snap up that special piece you've been eyeing for yourself.

Standard Issue's new Wellington store can be found in the Old Bank Arcade on Lambton Quay, Wellington Central. It's open Monday to Friday 9.30am - 5pm, Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 11am - 4pm.
