Overview

If anyone deserves to be on a comedic high horse, it’s Billy Connolly. Since his debut in New Zealand 36 years ago, the comedian has rounded up an impressive Kiwi following, with every show selling out, and over 60 000 loyal fans attending his 2009 gig.

What is even more impressive, is that our love for the Scottish comedian is requited. Connolly has openly admitted to an obsession with New Zealand, appearing in The Hobbit movies and The Last Samurai which was filmed in good ol’ Taranaki.

His latest High Horse tour hits Wellington this month, and promises to deliver the usual Connolly humour, where he manages to turn everyday life into hilarity. He throws back to his beginnings as a welder, a folk singer and a banjoist, (I promise I’m not making this up - this was seriously his life) before he made it as a comedian. No doubt the act will also cover his new-found artistic talent. The jokester has recently taken to expressing himself through caveman-like paintings to illustrate some of his life stories.

A welder, a folk-singer, a banjoist, a painter and a hilarious comedian, Connolly can ride that high horse all he likes, the man is a genius. Take a spare pair of pants.
