Pick up a hard-back for free this Valentine’s Day.

Overview

For the ones who forgot it was Valentine's Day, the single and staunch wanting to treat themselves on a Friday afternoon, and the bibliophiles holding out for a free hard-back any day of the year — the Book Depository has a treat in store for Wellington this Friday, 14 February.

Actually, it's not really in store. A temporary bookshelf at 101 Courtenay Place from midday will see Wellingtonians flocking to the one-day street display. A free-for-all it may be, but only one precious, hard-back title is allowed home with you — so make it count.

And what can Wellingtonians expect from the Book Depository's temporary bookshelf? Although it may be the day of lovin' and snugglin' for some, the whole bookshelf won't be full of Mills and Boon. Expect to see a majority of New Zealand bestsellers, including works from locals Elizabeth Knox and Lloyd Jones, as well as genres spanning from food and beverage, history and science to personal development and children's titles. However, if Cupid really did get to you and you're looking for that book of love poems (or something by Nicholas Sparks) there'll always be something to take home to give you the warm and fuzzies.

Wellington's set to look warm this Friday, so come along and be inspired once again by looks-great-with-a-coffee-on-Instagram books at 101 Courtenay Place. Feel the vibrancy of the Kiwi love for a good hard-back (we buy over six million hard-back copies a year from the Book Depository) and bring your pals, colleagues or fly solo for a page-thumbing good time. Maybe you'll even lock eyes with someone at the Book Depository stand while making your way through the sea of The Hungry Caterpillar and the new Nigella — it is the day of love after all?
