Overview

"I reckon we're about 7 or 8 years behind Australia in terms of natural wines, but we will get there," says Dan Gillett, owner of Wine Diamonds, a natural wines distributor and one of the minds behind BUDBURST, New Zealand's first natural wine and food festival. Budburst will ascend on Prefab hall this weekend, and aims to give exposure to the world of natural wines, a bracket of wine that is little known to New Zealand drinkers.

The festival will bring together winemakers, distributors, professionals from the wine industry, as well as anyone keen to learn more about the wine they're drinking. Wines are considered 'natural' when it is made from organically farmed fruit, without any intervention, additions or removals. Environmental consideration and sustainability go hand in hand with natural winemaking. Exploring the idea of natural wine has never been easier- the science of viticulture, experts waxing lyrical about their craft, and limited-release natural wines from producers will all be present at Budburst this weekend. Try some glasses, chat with the experts, attend a seminar or three, and get curious about what you're drinking.

With local food by Brooklyn's Salty Pidgin, caffeine by People's Coffee, Antipodes water on hand, and the folks at Garage Project coming in with the beer, Budburst is sure to be a fabulous exploration of the world of natural wines.
