Overview
The Documentary Edge Festival has been bringing the very best documentaries from across the globe to New Zealand since 2005. Due to gathering and physical distancing restrictions because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival moved online for the first time in 2020. Alongside Auckland's second round of lockdown restrictions the festival is screening a collection of features and free on-demand shorts until midnight Sunday, 30 August.
Select titles include an eye-opening look into the world of Bitcoin, Blockchain and the future of the Internet, a Sundance winner following a family who live in the wilderness of the Bucharest Delta, a feature uncovering a hidden refugee neighbourhood of Paris, and a whirlwind tale exploring the history of 2000s hit 'Who Let The Dogs Out'.
The collection of free shorts arrive by way of India, Netherlands, Australia, Myanmar and New Zealand. Take your pick from a doco retelling the story of a Syrian refugee who tried to swim from Calais to England, another covering New Zealand's oldest Māori dish, and an empowering flick looking at an annual girls, trans and non-binary rock camp.
