Overview

A total sell-out in 2018, Hiakai Hangi returns for this year's Wellington On a Plate with another generous helping of ka pai kai.

Celebrated local chef Monique Fiso will be leading a team of renowned international chefs who will be serving up their own unique spin on a traditional hangi.

In this celebration of Polynesian culture and culinary traditions, diners are invited to savour four courses of slow-cooked hangi delights, accompanied by Tutu cider, new release Tohu Whenua wine from Kono and entertainment, against a backdrop of Wellington harbour.

Fiso has been stirring things up in Wellington since opening her insanely good restaurant Hiakai last year.  She'll be joined by Los Angeles sensation Nyesha Arrington, her fellow contestant in The Final Table Ash Heeger, and Analiese Gregory of the very fine Franklin restaurant in Hobart.

Visa Wellington On a Plate, the capital's favourite foodie fiesta, returns in August with a month-long celebration of culinary delights. This year's festival invites you to feast your senses, with a smorgasbord of tantalising events, burgers, dishes and cocktails that'll leave you hungry for more. The festival takes place from 1 August - 31 August, across various venues.
