It's a Trial!

Act as members of the jury, sketch artists in the press box, or languish in the public gallery. It's all very meta.

Overview

Fusing community theatre with all the spicy lines of a courtroom drama, Binge Culture Collective and Barbarian Productions present It's a Trial!

Calling on members of the public to be witnesses and help win a case, lawyers Joel Bakensdale and Karin Rizmakon navigate a veritable legal quagmire. Is a duty of care owed? Has it been breached?

Suing the government for negligence has never been so precarious. The unreliable eye of maverick 'strange' (Theatreview) Judge Jody Ranzerson and her court taker, the 'odd (Theatreview) Courtney T Aker oversee the proceedings. Busy journalist Jacqui Strongarm will hopefully make an appearance also (depending on how well her Master's of Journalism is going).

Audience members act as members of the jury, sketch artists in the press box, or languish in the public gallery as part of the trial's atmosphere. Stay for as little or as long as you please.

It's a Trial! is a theatrical forum for community discussion of social issues - originally created and performed at Bats in April of 2016, putting the TVNZ Kiwimeter quiz on trial over five nights. This one-day version of the show will be a re-development of that work, changing the format and with entirely new content.

The trial will take place from 12 – 5pm in the Von Kohorn Boardroom.
